California is known as the "Golden State", and for good reason. Blue skies and sunshine make for great outdoor activities in summer, while mountain ranges capped with snow make winter enjoyable as well. California offers the best of any climate or location all within the same beautiful state. From beaches that run down the entire coast to mountains, deserts, valleys and more, California has something for everyone and we offer vacation home rentals right where you want to be.

Beaches

The entire coast of California sits on the Pacific Ocean, making it full of options for the perfect beach. Enjoy some of the country's best surfing locations in places like Pismo Beach, San Diego, and Newport Beach. Kayaking, and boating are also hot among water sports here. Fishing is always a large draw for amateurs or professionals. In places like Dana Point, you are able to charter a private boat, or join a group-fishing excursion with all of your gear supplied for you. Beachfront houses are abundant in every coastal city, and are even available with such amenities as private pools, spas, and of course fantastic views. Bay front vacation rentals also offer calmer currents perfect for swimming, kayaking, and paddle boating. Summer brings flocks of tourists for fun in the sun, and winter sets a romantic scene with amazing sunsets and a quieter atmosphere.

Winter Wonderland

The diverse areas in California offer not only beaches, but beautiful mountain ranges as well. Skiing and snowboarding are among the most popular California activities enjoyed in the winter months. Both downhill skiing and cross-country skiing are found from the southern area of the state to the northern area. Zen Getaways is one of the few vacation rental companies that offer exclusive ski in/out homes for a true skier's enjoyment. Premier skiing/snowboarding resorts are abundant in places like Big Bear, Lake Tahoe, Mount Whitney, Mammoth Mountain, and Mount Shasta. If skiing or snowboarding is not something for you, why not give sledding or bobsledding a try?  We offer several vacation cabins, cottages, and homes that are located very close to sledding parks located in Running Springs, Big Bear, and Wrightwood to name a few. The great thing about California's mountains is that they are still close to major cities and beaches. Even if you want to play in the snow, but only for an hour or so, the commute is still quick and easy from almost any area in the state.

Amusement Parks/ Attractions

California plays host to millions and millions of visitors from all over the world each year. From theme parks such as Disneyland in Anaheim, to animal-themed attractions like Sea World in San Diego, there is something here for every interest. Our vacation rentals are located in great locations all around the state, including many within walking distance to some great attractions. For those looking to experience history and learn in a fun way, there are the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, The Museum of Creation and Earth History in Santee, and the Nixon Library and Birthplace in Yorba Linda. Mystery lovers will find excitement with the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, the Mysterious Moving Rocks of Death Valley, the Haunted Aircraft Carrier in Alameda, the Queen Mary in Long Beach, and so much more. For thrill-seekers be sure to visit Sea World in San Diego, Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, Six Flags Marine World near San Francisco, Universal Studios Hollywood in Universal City, or California's Great America in Santa Clara. Vacation Homes make the perfect place to stay for anyone going to see California's attractions, since you can pack your own lunch or dinner, saving you and your family or friends a hefty sum of money. Many of our homes are centrally located between numerous attractions, so the driving (if any) is minimal.

Sports

The "Sunshine State" makes for the perfect playing field for sports. California hosts far more professional sports league franchises than any other state with nineteen total including MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, and AFL to name a few. Many of our guests enjoy the convenience of vacation home rentals that we offer near many of California's sports venues. Vacation homes are the perfect fit for any group of friends or family on a sports-oriented trip. Whether you come to host a killer tailgate party, or indulge in a Dodger Dog, our homes can accommodate any size group for any event. California has a wide variety of sports ranging from professional teams to college teams and everything in between. College sports programs are also a major attraction thanks to the success of such colleges as UCLA, USC, and UC Berkeley. The MLS team Los Angeles Galaxy has been making headlines with the recently acquired David Beckham and his record-breaking salary. In the 2008 MLB season two teams hailing from California made it into the playoffs, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. While only two teams made it into the playoffs, the state is home to many MLB teams with impressive track records including the San Diego Padres, the Oakland Athletics, and the San Francisco Giants. The NFL is also has a big following with the teams in California like the San Diego Chargers, the Oakland Raiders, and the San Francisco 49ers. Any sports fan will appreciate the rich sports culture that California has to offer, and what better way to enjoy it than in your own private vacation home rental!

California Island Living:

The California Channel Islands are composed of a chain of eight small islands off of the coast near the Santa Barbara Channel. Two of these islands, San Nicolas Island and San Clemente Island are under US Navy control. Five of the other islands including San Miguel Island, Santa Rosa Island, Santa Cruz Island, Santa Barbara Island, and Anacapa Island have been made into the Channel Islands National Park. Very few annual visitors arrive on the islands, although when they do, camping is a favored activity. The single island that does have a permanent population is Santa Catalina Island, also known to many simply as "Catalina". This island encompasses the tourist-friendly city of Avalon and the unincorporated city of Two Harbors. Catalina Island is a favorite among Californians and out-of-state visitors in the summer thanks to the beautiful scenery, and fun activities such as horseback riding through the mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean, scuba diving, "semi-submerged" submarine rides, beaches, fishing, and of course the island's rich history. William Wrigley, Jr. purchased the island in 1919, and made it the location for Spring Training for the Cubs during 1921-1951. He also improved the island by adding a hotel, casino, and public utilities. The island is now 88% owned by the Catalina Island Conservancy, which was founded with help of his son Philip Wrigley in 1975. Today the island of Catalina is one of California's most popular vacation destinations. Summer brings the most visitors thanks to the beautiful weather and warm water. Winter is also a great time for many to visit Catalina because of the calmer atmosphere, and less crowds. Zen Getaways is proud to offer some of the most exquisite vacation homes on Catalina Island to our clients. Our Catalina Island rental homes are close to the beach, clean, comfortable, and offered at unbelievable prices. We are proud to offer some of Catalina's most exquisite homes overlooking the Avalon Bay, beachfront, or in the heart of town. We also offer amazing prices on winter island home rentals. Zen Getaways is one of the few vacation rental companies that are able to offer year-round Catalina Island vacation home rentals.
